Sabra Hummus Products Recalled Amid Listeria Concerns

BOSTON (CBS) -- Stop & Shop is pulling some cases of a popular brand of hummus off the shelves after it was recalled for potential listeria contamination.

About 30,000 cases of Sabra Classic Hummus have been recalled nationwide. The affected products include

• Sabra Classic Hummus, 10 oz., UPC 4082201114; with a best before date of 2015 May 11 or 2015 May 15
• Sabra Classic Hummus Six Pack, 17 oz., UPC 4082201749; with a best before date of 2015 May 11

A listeria monocytogenes infection can cause serious illness and even death, especially in the young and elderly.

"Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women," the FDA said in a press release.

Stop & Shop said there have been no reports of illnesses yet. Anyone who bought the recalled hummus should throw out any unused portions, and bring their receipt back to the store for a full refund.
