Dog Missing For Over A Year Reunited With Owner
WAKEIFLED (CBS) -- A dog that ran away more than a year ago has been reunited with its owner.
Sharrie Covell's dog Frankie was in the care of a friend last April when the dog was spooked by a loud noise and ran away, according to the Missing Dogs Massachusetts group.
The family put up flyers, gave interviews and searched the North Shore for Frankie. The dog was spotted on a trail camera in June, but she was not seen again.
But in just the past week, a Newburyport woman contacted animal groups about a dog living on her property that animal control had been unable to corral. A trap was set, and the dog that turned out to be Frankie was caught early Sunday morning.
Frankie had lost about 40 pounds, broke a canine tooth and had some tick-borne illnesses, but is doing relatively well.
"All in all, she is in amazing shape for a dog who had to fend for herself through one of the worst winters on record," Missing Dogs Massachusetts said.
On Tuesday, Frankie had an emotional reunion with Covell. Missing Dogs Massachusetts is trying to raise $2,500 to help pay for the veterinary costs.
