LeGarrette Blount Suspended For First Game Of 2015 Season

BOSTON (CBS) -- The season opener for the New England Patriots next fall is sure to be a massive celebration for the entire organization, as the team will raise a banner in front of a roaring home crowd to kick off the 2015 season.

Yet LeGarrette Blount will not be able to enjoy the moment, as the Patriots running back has been suspended for Week 1 of the season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

The punishment stems from Blount's arrest last August, when he was a member of the Steelers. Blount was arrested while sharing a car with fellow Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell. Police found marijuana in the car.

Blount, 28, joined the Patriots last season in November for his second stint with the team, after the Steelers let him go midseason. The running back made 60 carries for 281 yards and three touchdowns in five games for New England. He rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns in the AFC Championship Game victory over the Colts, and he ran for 40 yards on 14 carries in the Super Bowl against Seattle.
