Bridgewater State Day Care Announces Changes In Aftermath Of Rape Arrest

BRIDGEWATER (CBS) – Officials at the Bridgewater State University day care center have announced several changes at the facility after a student worker was recently arrested for allegedly raping a pair of young boys.

Day care officials said security cameras will be installed in both large classrooms at the facility, which is closed this week after Kyle Loughlin, 21, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse and indecent assault and battery last week.

Officials added that a two-level play structure in one of the classrooms will be removed this week at the request of staff members. The company hired to install the security cameras recommended the equipment be taken down as well.

Renovations are expected to be completed by Monday. The daycare will likely reopen that day.

Joanne Hogan has been hired as the interim director of the center. Hogan has worked at Children's Center since 2001.

Children's Center program director Judith Ritacco was suspended following Loughlin's arrest. Court documents showed that parents and teachers voiced concerns to Ritacco several weeks before Loughlin was arrested, but Ritacco allegedly told them to "keep this confidential."

As a part of the changes announced Tuesday, Bridgewater State is also suspending the use of student employees at the center for the remainder of the semester.
