NH Teacher Allegedly Convinced Girl To Send Inappropriate Pictures

MANCHESTER, NH (CBS) – A gym teacher in Manchester, New Hampshire has been arrested for allegedly convincing a young girl to send him inappropriate pictures.

Police say Paul Johnson-Yarosevich, of Acton, Maine, was communicating with the girl on a social media network. Johnson-Yarosevich is a longtime gym teacher at the Parker-Varney Elementary School.

The victim thought she was talking to another girl who was her own age and shared inappropriate photos of herself.

"This man posed as a young girl, similar age to the victim, breached her trust, got her to believe in him as being someone who he was not and at some point in time some inappropriate photos were exchanged, caused some alarm for the young victim," Manchester Police Lt. Brian O'Keefe said.

An investigation began after the girl's father contacted police.

The school district placed Johnson-Yarosevich on leave prior to Monday's arrest.

"The Manchester School District condemns the behavior alleged in this case and has taken swift and immediate action to ensure the safety and security of our students," the school district said in a statement.

A letter was sent home to parents at the schools, simply saying the teacher was placed on leave because of misconduct which was being investigated by police and no other details were provided.

Parents were alarmed to hear the news. "My daughter's in kindergarten and she speaks very highly of him she loves gym that's her favorite subject here," one woman told WBZ-TV.

Johnson-Yarosevich has worked in the Manchester School District since 2005.

Police are trying to determine if this was an isolated case.

"It's so important to talk with your kids about social media make sure you understand exactly what they're doing," Superintendent Dr. Debra Livingston said.
