Torey Krug On Zolak & Bertrand: 'Lot Of Work To Be Done' For Bruins

BOSTON (CBS) - Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand were joined by Bruins defenseman Torey Krug Wednesday afternoon for his weekly interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

The Bruins are currently on a three-game win streak after Tuesday's 3-2 victory versus Florida and remain three points ahead of the Ottawa Senators for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The current string of success comes after a six-game losing streak in which the team appeared unfit for a postseason run.

"We knew when Ottawa had passed us things weren't exactly in our hands, so we had to go out there and make sure we were doing our part and get some help from the outside. Now that we are in a good position, it's about making sure we do our thing," said Krug.

Krug noted how his team's successful play as of late has come from solid defensive effort leading to offensive chances on the other end.

"When we really focus and clamp down in our [defensive] zone it's like the offensive opportunities really come, and all of a sudden you're getting your goals, your assists and things like that."

Krug admits the team is still a work in progress but believes they can compete with anybody as the Bruins head into the final games of the regular season. And while the B's have been inconsistent all year, Krug spoke about how the team is making valiant strides when it matters most: with five games remaining before the playoffs.

"Good teams play their best hockey at the right times, and it's still a work in progress," said Krug. "There's been periods of time throughout the whole season where we've been able to compete with anybody."

The Bruins hope to continue to stave off Ottawa in the standings when they return to the ice on Thursday in Detroit to face the Red Wings at 7:30pm.
