Daily Talker: Letter 'Fat Shames' 7 Year Old Girl

A mother in Missouri is furious after receiving a letter from her 7 year old daughter's school.

After having their body mass index calculated in gym class earlier this month, students at Hillcrest Elementary School in Belton, Mo., were given a letter to take home that listed their body mass index.

The letter also included that student's BMI from September, and whether the current BMI fell below, within, or above what's considered "healthy" range.

Amanda Moss's 7-year-old daughter Kylee is 3-feet, 10-inches and 54 pounds, with a BMI that falls above the established "healthy" range.  Kylee actually asked her father is she was fat.

It's all part of the school's initiative to help kids be healthier, but many feel the letters go too far.

Massachusetts participated in a similar initiative but voted to eliminate the practice back in October of 2013.

What do you think about letters sent home to parents detailing their child's body mass index?
