Tuukka Rask Leaves Early With Possible Dehydration
BOSTON (CBS) – The Bruins cruised to a win over the New York Rangers on Saturday at TD Garden, but fans still were left holding their breath after the unexpected exit of goalie Tuukka Rask.
Rask held the Rangers scoreless in the first period as the Bruins mounted a 3-0 lead.
But just 10 seconds into the second period, Rask left the crease and skated off the ice.
He spoke briefly to head coach Claude Julien before heading down the tunnel to the locker room.
Backup goalie Niklas Svedberg had the opportunity to stretch before he took the ice in Rask's place. The Bruins extended the lead to 4-0 later in the second and went on to a 4-2 win.
After the game, Julien told the media Rask is "fine."
"Looks like it may have been a case of dehydration," Julien said.
Julien said Rask is expected to travel with the team on Saturday. Boston plays again Sunday at 5 p.m. against the Carolina Hurricanes.
With Saturday's win, the Bruins took a two-point edge over the Ottawa for the eighth and final playoff spot, though the Senators play Saturday night.
