FBI Offers Reward In Gold Heist Involving Boston-Bound Truck

BOSTON (CBS) – Investigators are offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspects in a multimillion-dollar gold heist from a truck in North Carolina that was headed to Boston.

The truck left Miami on March 1, scheduled to arrive in Boston the next day.

But at about 6:30 p.m. on March 1 while on Interstate 95 in Wilson County, North Carolina, the driver pulled the tractor-trailer over onto the side of the road.

After stopped the truck, the driver and passengers were accosted and restrained by at least two armed men who pulled up in a white van, introduced themselves as "policia" and placed traffic cones near the truck.

The men, who spoke in Spanish, led the men into the woods. The suspects entered the tractor-trailer, stole about $4.9 million in gold bars and drove away.

Investigators do not know why the driver of the gold truck pulled over in the first place.

The FBI said earlier this month that an "inside job" was suspected.

In addition to the $25,000 FBI reward, Transvalue Inc. of Miami previous said it is offering a $50,000 reward for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
