Amesbury Police Officer Delivers Prom Proposal During Traffic Stop

AMESBURY (CBS) - An Amesbury High School student got the unlikeliest of prom proposals when it happened during a traffic stop on Wednesday.

A police officer stopped Lauren Fedorchak at about 3:15 p.m. on Lower Main Street.

But, unlike other traffic stops, this one had been in the offing for about a month, as high school junior Nick Fortuna asked police for assistance asking his girlfriend to the prom, according to the Amesbury police Facebook page.

Officer Ronald Guilmette stopped Lauren and she gave him her license and registration.

"I was so scared. I was like shaking I was so nervous," Fedorchak said. "It's like my biggest fear to be pulled over."

Moments later, he returned and gave her a "ticket" that had a message written on it that said "Prom with Tuna???"

"Nick was waiting in Officer Guilmette's cruiser and as planned came up to deliver some flowers to Lauren as she sat stunned and laughing, staring at what was written on the citation," reads the Facebook post.

Fortuna says it took some planning to pick the right spot to pull her over but "it was worth it."

"Luckily, Lauren was a good sport about it and said YES!!!"
