Police: Dog Thrown From Car Report 'May Not Appear To Be As It Seems'

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) -- One day after a New Hampshire animal shelter shared a story of a dog being thrown out a car window, police are saying things may not be as they seem.

On Monday, the Manchester Animal Shelter asked if anyone recognized a small dog that was thrown out of a car. The shelter said a Good Samaritan witnessed someone throw the dog from the car and rescued him.

"He is fortunate he is unhurt," the shelter wrote on Facebook. "Please call 603-628-3544 for any information in case this dog was lost or stolen and there are loving owners looking for him."

But Manchester police sent out a statement Tuesday afternoon, suggesting that the report may not be accurate.

"This particular case may not appear to be as it seems, so an investigation is needed to determine if in fact the incident actually occurred," police spokesman Brian O'Keefe said.

Police said they can't release any more information at this time.
