Hannaford Recalls Mixed Nuts

BOSTON (CBS) - Hannaford Supermarkets announced Saturday that it has voluntarily removed two Aurora Products mixed nuts due to potential salmonella contamination.

Products recalled include:

  • Nature's Place Roasted Unsalted Mixed Nuts
  • Nature's Place Cranberry Mix

The mixed nut products are in 9-ounce and 9.5-ounce packages. The item numbers are 725439 94507 and 725439 94563.

Aurora Products has learned of a positive test result for salmonella in walnuts that are contained in the products.

Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy, according to a press statement.

Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms are chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up for a week.

The supermarket has received no reports of illnesses to date.

Customers who have bought the product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Hannaford for a refund.
