Toucher & Rich: Why Are The Bruins So Maddeningly Inconsistent?

BOSTON (CBS) -  NESN's Billy Jaffe appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show Wednesday morning to try and make sense of the Buffalo loss Tuesday night, one that he called the team's most disappointing defeat of the year.

Why is this team so Jekyll and Hyde?

"I have no clue. This team always seems to be getting over that proverbial hump, right? Maybe we need to dig deeper inside and say they're just finding ways to win, and really not getting over the hump," Jaffe told the morning show. "Maybe this is a team that doesn't believe in itself enough. Maybe it's just good, but not really good in terms of overall depth."

Even in their wins, especially during this recent surge, they're not exactly playing their best hockey. Earning points in the standings is never a bad thing, but these up-and-down performances just speak to a season-long issue that's never really gone away.

"There's elements in these games where they're finding ways to win, yes, but they're not great [performances] -- they were just winning. Even a few [Bruins players] would say we're picking up points, and that's the most important thing. But this team all year long has gotten wins at times you didn't expect it when guys were injured, and then when they got healthy they couldn't win," said Jaffe. "I'll bet you at the end of the year when all is said and done, if you ask the coaching staff and management they'll even have a hard time answering that question."

Jaffe also talked about the general manager meetings taking place in Florida, and potential changes coming to the overtime next season. All that and much more.
