Bergeron: '100 Percent Participation' From Bruins Teammates At 'Cuts For A Cause'

BOSTON (CBS) - With Aaron Ward and Shawn Thornton long gone, Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron is picking up right where they left off for Cuts For A Cause, an event that has raised over $360,000 for charity over the past seven years.

Now in its eighth year, Bergeron joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show to announce the auction opens Monday morning at 10am!

"Today I'm really happy to say that we have a full 100 percent participation from the whole team, so this is the first year we have all the players actually participating to Cuts For A Cause to shave their heads," Bergeron said.

Even though the money raised go towards a good cause, some of Bergeron's teammates just love their locks, and needed more convincing than others.

"It took a little bit of negotiating with some of the guys. I mean, Loui [Eriksson] thinks he's got the best hair on the team, so it was hard for me to get him, but he's on board and he's going to be doing it," said Bergeron. "I'm very excited."

Even Shawn Thornton, Boston's enforcer for many seasons, couldn't get full participation from his teammates in this event.

So what did Bergeron do different?

"[Laughter]. I don't think he was doing anything wrong, but no one is getting married this summer so that definitely helped. I don't know. Guys each and every year are realizing it's part of tradition now and guys want to be a part of it. This year I guess I got lucky asking everyone."

Goalie Tuukka Rask was one of the last Bruins players to relent, even though he was leaning yes the whole time. Loui Eriksson, however, was by far the hardest to convince according to Bergeron.

"Loui was definitely the hardest to get. He's really worried about it. Hopefully he looks good," Bergeron joked.

Bergeron also weighed in on his team's recent hot streak, last night's game notwithstanding.
