Police Officer Saves Toddler From Choking On Pennies

LOWELL (CBS) – A Lowell police officer saved a 1-year-old child from choking on two pennies on Saturday.

A mother living on Worthen Street called for help after her child stopped breathing, police said. Officers found the woman crying and holding her child when they arrived to the third-floor apartment.

Officer Chad Collins took the child and administered back-blows and was able to dislodge a penny from the child's throat.

But as Collins started to look for any more obstructions, the child began choking again. Police said Collins started giving more back-blows and successfully dislodged a second penny.

The child was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
