Worcester Firefighter Falls From Second Floor Window, Cushioned By Snow

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Worcester firefighter who fell from a second-floor window while battling a three-alarm house fire may have been spared more serious injury by a snowbank.

The firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released. He was reaching for a ladder when he fell from the window of the two-family home Friday morning.

Deputy Chief John Sullivan says the 19-year veteran was trying to escape the building from the second floor when he fell, but was cushioned by the snow.

All the occupants of the home were able to get out safely.

No names were released. The cause remains under investigation.

Firefighters were called to the home at about 3:30 a.m. and arrived to find heavy fire coming from the rear of the building.
