Baker Seeks $200M For Road And Bridge Projects

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker is asking lawmakers to approve an additional $200 million in state aid for local road and bridge projects.

Baker filed the bill on Friday in the hopes the so-called Chapter 90 transportation funding can be approved and made available to cities and towns in time for the spring construction season.

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito says the money would come in especially handy after a severe winter that has taken a toll on local transportation infrastructure.

The Legislature approved $300 million for Chapter 90 last year but Baker's predecessor, former Gov. Deval Patrick, withheld $100 million after citing fiscal concerns. Baker ordered release of the $100 million on the day he took office in January.
