Woman Dies In 2-Alarm Dorchester Fire

BOSTON (CBS) – A woman died Tuesday afternoon following a two-alarm Dorchester fire.

The Boston Fire Department responded to 83 Tonawanda Street at 2:30 p.m. and found smoke showing from a home upon their arrival.

Firefighters ordered a second alarm at the 2.5-story home, which is a two-family property.

Officials said an adult woman was found on the first floor of the home. She was taken by Boston EMS to Mass General Hospital, but was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit on the first floor. It was the second fatal fire so far this year in Boston.

Two firefighters were also injured and transported to an area hospital. One suffered a cut to the neck and another firefighter injured their leg.

Fire officials said they will investigate the blaze along with Boston police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which is standard protocol.
