Former Celtic Jeff Green Not Expecting A Video Tribute On Wednesday

BOSTON (CBS) -- Most Celtics fans heading to the TD Garden for Wednesday night's Celtics-Grizzlies game aren't expecting to see a Jeff Green tribute video.

And neither is Jeff Green.

When Green makes his first return to Boston since being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in January, he knows he isn't going to get the ovation or video of fond memories that Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and even Rajon Rondo were treated to when they returned to the TD Garden.

And he's ok with it. Why? Because he didn't deliver what those other players did.

"It would be nice, but I don't expect it," Green told reporters on Tuesday. "The guys who got them won championships."

Green had a few highlight dunks during his time in green, and a very memorable game-winning shot in Miami last season, but those alone don't warrant a tribute video. He spent four seasons in Boston, and as he said, was never able to help the Celtics raise another championship banner.

The 2011 swap with the Oklahoma City Thunder that sent Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson to the Thunder for Green and Nenad Krstic will always be one of the more controversial moves by president Danny Ainge, since the trade did not result in Boston's return to the NBA finals or another title that season. That deal saw the Celtics lose Perkins, a fan favorite and key contributor on the defense, and Green was never able to fit in with that core group. The 2011 Celtics lost in the second round of the playoffs to the Miami Heat.

Green was never able to take his game to the next level over the last few seasons for the rebuilding Celtics, and was sent to Memphis in January in a three-team trade that brought Tayshaun Prince, Austin Rivers and a future first-round draft pick to the Celtics. Prince and Rivers have since been traded.

In his four years in Boston, Green averaged 14.6 points and 4.2 rebounds. Decent numbers, but nowhere near worthy of a video tribute.
