Zolak & Bertrand: Torey Krug Says It's Awful What Happened To Connolly

BOSTON (CBS) - This season the Bruins just can't seem to buy a break, but that's exactly what they bought earlier this week when they traded a pair of second round picks for Lightning right wing Brett Connolly.

Connolly, in just his second practice with the team, was hit by a puck during Wednesday's session. The Bruins announced shortly after practice that Connolly will be out for six weeks with a displaced fracture of his right index finger.

It's a huge disappointment for the Bruins.

Defenseman Torey Krug, who missed almost two weeks of action after suffering a gruesome finger injury in late October, can relate.

Krug stopped by the 98.5 TD Garden Pro Shop Studio Thursday afternoon to discuss Connolly's injury and much more with Zolak & Bertrand.

"It's awful," Krug said of Connolly's injury. "The worst part about it for him is he's so excited to get in here, get a new opportunity, fresh start, blank slate if that's what you want to call it, and the second day of practice he goes down like that. That's kind of been the story of our season so far."

The voice of the Bruins Dave Goucher relayed that same sentiment to Toucher & Rich earlier Thursday morning, that the Bruins just seem like a snake-bitten team this year.

"You can't make this stuff up," Goucher told T&R.

But there's still work to be done, and with 20 games left in the regular season Krug knows his Bruins (71 points) need to take care of business to ward off Florida (69) and Ottawa (67), both in hot pursuit of the eighth seed.

"[We feel] a little bit [snake bit] but there's no time to sit here and sulk about it. It's tough for [Connolly]. I feel for him for sure," said Krug.

Boston is about to embark on a tough stretch of games where they'll play 11 times in 18 days, starting tonight at TD Garden against Calgary.
