Former Arlington Teaching Assistant Accused Of Rape

BOSTON (CBS) – A former teaching assistant has been arrested for allegedly raping a teen.

Police say 36-year-old James Henry Martin III of Woburn is charged with aggravated statutory rape and enticement of a child under 16 for sex.

He met the alleged victim when he was working at Ottoson Middle School in Arlington.

Arlington Public Schools Superintendent Kathleen Bodie says all employees are subject to criminal background checks. "We are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation," Bodie said. "We are not aware of any other inappropriate conduct involving any other children, and we have no reason to believe that any other children were affected."

Martin left Arlington Public Schools in 2013 but stayed in contact with the alleged victim on social media. Police say Martin arranged to meet the victim in January of 2014 and sexually assaulted the victim in a parking lot.

"This is a deeply disturbing case, in which we allege that an adult sexually assaulted a minor and violated the trust placed in him to care for children," Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan said.

Martin was arrested at his Woburn home Thursday afternoon. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Cambridge District Court.
