Patriots Don't Pick Up Vince Wilfork's Option

BOSTON (CBS) -- It looks like Vince Wilfork's career with the New England Patriots is over.

Wilfork tweeted out Thursday morning that the Patriots will not pick up his option for the 2015 season, making the nose tackle a free agent.

"I want to take this time to let everyone know that I was informed on Tuesday that the Patriots will not be picking up my option," Wilfork relayed. "I'm in a good place I have a great relationship with the Patriots organization. Please know how blessed my family and I have been to be able to play 11 years in New England for an amazing organization. The love you guys as fans have shown me have been my inspiration year in and year out...."

Wilfork spent 11 years with New England after the team drafted him 21st overall out of Miami in 2004. He won a Super Bowl his rookie season and again last season, and became one of the best nose tackles in the game throughout his Patriots career.

Wilfork was quick to say that he doesn't think his football career is over, but he will always consider New England his home.

"Can I still play football? Hell yea! do I still love football? Hell yea! One thing for sure is I will always be a fixture in New England forever... This will always be my home!!"

Wilfork was due to have an $8.6 million cap hit next season.
