Ferraro On Toucher & Rich: Peter Chiarelli's Job In Jeopardy

BOSTON (CBS) -  Former NHL player and current TSN broadcaster Ray Ferraro called in to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Tuesday to give his take on the trade deadline moves around the league.

The Boston Bruins made some minor moves, but nothing earth-shattering or franchise-altering in their acquisitions of Brett Connolly and Max Talbot.

Because of the losses of Jarome Iginla and Johnny Boychuk, Ferraro hasn't been high on the Bruins at any point this season. But with that being said, overall he liked what the Bruins did on Monday, even though it won't result in a Stanley Cup.

"If they get in the playoffs, they can win a round. But I just don't see them putting together two and three rounds. It's so hard to win a playoff series, and then to build momentum to go to the next one. If you're going to win a couple of series, then everybody has to be playing near their peak, and that hasn't happened at all this season," Ferraro said of the Bruins.

"And you need depth [in the postseason], because somebody is going to get hurt. The Bruins don't have any. I don't know how that gets fixed now that the deadline is over."

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli has been the subject of scrutiny for the team being so tight against the cap, resulting in a team barely clinging to a playoff spot.

Ferraro says it's playoffs or bust for the team executive.

"I don't see how [Chiarelli's job] is not [in jeopardy]. The comments from Mr. Jacobs and Cam Neely, the Bruins have set such a high standard that I would think anything less than making it in would not be very easy for them to swallow," Ferraro told T&R.

"Yeah, I do believe his job is in jeopardy, and if his job is in jeopardy then Claude Julien's job is in jeopardy too. Because I would suspect if they go to a new GM then they would go to a new coach as well."

Also during the interview, Fred reveals to the guest that he and his wife first knocked boots after a Ray Ferraro bobblehead night in Atlanta.
