Snowmobilers Rescued After 3 Machines Stranded In Deep Snow
PITTSBURG, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire conservation officers rescued three snowmobilers whose machines got stuck in deep snow on Stub Hill in Pittsburg.
Conservation officer Christopher Egan says the three men worked for several hours to free their snowmobiles from deep snow that one of them described as being up to his eyeballs before trying to walk down the mountain.
They called 911 for help at about 8 p.m. Saturday.
Conservation officers located the men just after 10 p.m. — about a mile-and-a-half from their machines. They are 29-year-old Joseph Landquist and 48-year-old Michael Tobin, both of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and 30-year-old Robert Loughman of Fort Ann, New York.
Stubb Hill is the highest mountain in the Pittsburg area, with an elevation of 3,627 feet. Egan said the current snow pack is 5-6 feet deep.
