Keller @ Large: Jonathan Gruber Failed Miserably

BOSTON (CBS) - Nice try by MIT Professor Jonathan Gruber Wednesday night, trying to spin the Boston Globe that his removal from the state Health Care Connector board had nothing to do with his penchant for bragging about how he and other Obamacare peddlers bamboozled the "stupid" American public with a pack of lies about what the Affordable Care Act was and how it worked.

"All that was communicated to me is that the governor would like to have his own set of people on the Connector," said the professor.

Yes, that is what the polite firing letter from the governor said. But it's crystal clear even to a stupid American voter like me that Gruber was dumped not just because the governor wants his own people in charge of that train-wreck of a board, but because Gruber had completely lost any credibility as an honest overseer of this important public trust.

And in that regard, he has plenty of company.

Let's review: a massive, complex overhaul of the health-care system was rammed through in Washington on a strict party-line vote by headline-crazed partisan Democrats who hadn't read the bill, egged on by slobbering partisan Republicans interested only in saying no. (Note the contrast here with the way the Massachusetts health-care reform, supposedly the model for Obamacare, was crafted in a non-partisan manner.)

Then our generally well-received system was destroyed by the out-of-control partisanship of then-Gov. Deval Patrick, who prioritized cooperation with the faltering federal approach over maintaining what we had built.

Meanwhile, partisan idiots on the Connector board have been wearing Gruber pins to meetings and heckling Baker appointees trying to clean up their mess.

This is why Gruber and the others are gone – they failed, miserably and reprehensibly.

Professor, save the spin, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
