David Krejci To Miss 4-6 Weeks With Partially Torn MCL

BOSTON (CBS) -- The struggling Bruins got a shot in the arm with a big win on Sunday, but they took another hit on Monday.

The team learned that it will be without David Krejci for four to six weeks, after the center suffered a partially torn MCL in his left knee during Friday night's loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Krejci, 28, has seven goals and 19 assists in 38 games played this season. He missed a month-and-a-half -- save for one game -- in November and December due to injury.

The Bruins inked Krejci to a six-year contract extension prior to the start of the season, a deal that will keep him in Boston through 2021.

If Krejci returns in four weeks, he'll be able to play in the final 10 or so games of the regular season. If he recovers more on the later end of the six weeks, he may have just a handful of games to get back up to speed before the postseason -- provided the Bruins remain in playoff position.

Prior to league play beginning on Monday, the Bruins held a three-point lead in the standings over Florida and four-point lead over Philadelphia for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
