MBTA Announces Service Restoration Plan

BOSTON (CBS) – After days of limited service, the MBTA has announced a restoration plan.

Snow and extreme cold have completely shut down the MBTA on some days and severely limited service on others.

MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott says service is being restored with the help of the Governor's office and the National Guard.

"With all the additional resources at our disposal we are now systematically executing a plan to recover remaining sections of the Orange, Green and Red lines while also working to get our maintenance facilities fully operational," Scott said.

Service Restoration Plan According to MBTA:

  • Green Line E Branch will open Friday 2/20
  • Green Line B Branch will open on Monday 2/23
  • Red Line to North Quincy will open Friday 2/20
  • Red Line from Braintree to North Quincy will open Monday 2/23
  • Red Line from Mattapan to Ashmont will open Friday 2/27
  • Commuter Rail will run on modified weekday schedule through Friday 2/20, significant delays, cancellations expected
  • Buses, including the Silver Line, are operating on a weekday schedule

Officials from the MBTA and MassDOT stressed that reduced train counts due to the winter storms will result in longer wait times and some crowding in the short term.

On Monday, Scott indicated it could be as long as thirty days before full service is restored. On Tuesday Governor Charlie Baker didn't seem like he was fully on board with the MBTA.
