Richardson On Bruins: 'Really Nobody On Their Roster That They Really Want To Move'

BOSTON (CBS) - 98.5 The Sport's Hub's Toucher and Rich were joined by The Hockey News writer and Bleacher Report contributor Lyle Richardson Thursday morning to discuss the possible moves the Bruins could make ahead of the March 2 trade deadline.

The Bruins are coming off a 5-3 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night which raises a number of questions about where the Bruins stand in the Eastern Conference. In dire need of a right winger and possibly a defenseman, the Bruins may have the valuable assets that other teams want in order to acquire those needs.

"Right now, it's mainly picks and prospects because there is really nobody on their roster that they really want to move," Richardson said.

If the Bruins were to move players, it's expected that theywill move prospects and not key players, including Loui Eriksson and Milan Lucic.

"I heard that Ryan Spooner is a name that might be in play," Richardson mentioned.

For the possible targets the Bruins need to fulfill their needs, Richardson lists out a few players.

"The Bruins were willing to offer a second-rounder to Buffalo's Chris Stewart, but apparently the Sabres want more for him, which I think is absurd," Richardson said. "They're also looking at Columbus' Cam Atkinson, which I find interesting. Either they've given up trying to get Chris Stewart at a reasonable price, or maybe they're doing this to kind of see if they can't force the Sabres to knock down that asking price.."

The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently in a fire sale and may have key players the Bruins could look upon to scoop up.

"[Mike] Santorelli could be a guy that the Bruins might be able to look at. He's very affordable, he comes with a $1.5 million cap hit just for this season. They could afford to take him on. He's a very versatile player, he can play center, he can play wing. He's best suited for third-line duty, so he wouldn't be able to fill that first-line role on the right side that they're looking for, but if they can't find that guy and they want to be able to bolster their depth elsewhere, Santorelli could be an affordable pick-up for them," Richardson said.

If the Bruins hope to push for a playoff spot, they should waste no time in making moves.
