Bill Cosby Shows In Boston Canceled

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Bill Cosby has canceled his Sunday stand-up comedy performances in Boston.

The Wilbur Theater posted an announcement on its website Sunday morning. The theater said tickets will be refunded where patrons purchased them.

The theater apologized for the abrupt change but did not say why the shows were canceled. Protesters had been expected to rally outside the theater in opposition to Cosby's show. They say they still intend to hold a 2 p.m. news conference at the Hyatt Regency Boston Hotel.

Helen Gumpel, a model and actress who appeared in an episode of "The Cosby Show," is also expected to hold a news conference at a Boston hotel Sunday afternoon to talk about sexual advances she alleges the 77-year-old entertainer made.

The cancellations come as New England is in the midst of another snowstorm expected to bring nearly two feet of snow to the Boston area through Tuesday.

In an emailed statement to WBZ-TV, a spokesman for Cosby said the cancellation was "due to weather advisories reporting snow and sleet."

"I have decided to cancel for your travel safety. No need to worry, I will be back soon to raise the roof with laughter," Cosby said in a statement. "Don't forget I said, I will be back soon. Hey, Hey, Hey -- I'm Far From Finished."

The 77-year-old entertainer faces sexual assault accusations from at least 15 women, with some of the claims dating back decades. He denies the allegations and has never been charged with a crime. Some of the embattled comedian's performances elsewhere have drawn heckling and protests, and some have been canceled.
