Peabody Woman Injured in NH Snowmobile Crash

BERLIN, N.H. (CBS) - A Peabody woman was injured after being thrown from her snowmobile that crashed Saturday afternoon at Jericho Mountain State Park in Berlin, officials say.

Joan Niles, 56, was snowmobiling with her husband and friends when the crash occurred.

While traveling downhill about a 1/4-mile from the Warming Hut, Niles lost control of her snowmobile when it went off the side of the trail in deep powder, police say.

The snowmobile continued down an embankment and hit a ditch, throwing her from the vehicle upon impact.

Niles suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her head, police say.

She was quickly attended to by her riding companions, as they placed a 911 call.

Berlin EMS was notified, along with New Hampshire Fish and Game.

A conservation officer was patrolling on snowmobile in the area and responded to the scene.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin.
