Red Sox Sign Wade Miley To 3-Year Contact Extension

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox avoided salary arbitration with one of their newest starters on Thursday, agreeing to a three-year extension with Wade Miley.

The deal also includes a club option for 2018.

Boston acquired Miley from the Diamondbacks on December 12, sending right-handed pitchers Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster and infielder Raymel Flores to Arizona.

Last season, the 28-year-old Miley led the Diamondbacks and ranked 12th among National League pitchers with 183 strikeouts over 201.1 innings pitched. He finished the season with a 8-12 record to go with a 4.34 ERA in 33 starts.

Miley is the only lefty pitcher, and one of only six major leaguers, to make at least 33 starts in both 2013 and 2014. Over his four-year MLB career, he is 38-35 with a 3.79 ERA in 106 games, including 102 starts.

With this extension, the Red Sox have no remaining unsigned players eligible for salary arbitration.
