Remains Found On Beach Identified As Missing Swampscott Woman
SWAMPSCOTT (CBS) – It's the worst possible outcome in the search for a young Swampscott mother. Human remains found on King's Beach in Swampscott Wednesday have been identified as those of 25-year-old Jaimee Mendez.
She disappeared November 6 after calling friends and telling them she was with a man in Lynn and wanted to leave. When they arrived she was gone.
A person walking a dog along the beach discovered the remains near two lobster traps and dental records made the match. Investigators are now trying to answer the questions how she died and who is responsible.
There have been clues to her disappearance over the last couple of months. A search of an industrial area in Salem uncovered her jacket, cellphone, a charger and identification. In Lynn, her sneakers and men's clothing were found in a dumpster.
Jaimee Mendez is the mother of a five-year-old autistic son and her family has said she would never leave him. At a Swampscott pizza shop where she once worked, owner Charles Gomez says he hopes it brings some closure to the family. "I think the family will now have more peace since they found the body and do whatever they have to do," he said.
In a statement Essex County district attorney Jonathan Blodgett said, "We are relieved for Jaimee's family that she has been located and identified. We will continue to work diligently to determine the circumstances of her death. Our thoughts are with the Mendez family during this difficult time."
