Bruins Recall Malcolm Subban From Providence

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins have recalled goaltender Malcolm Subban from Providence, sending backup netminder Niklas Svedberg down on a conditioning loan, the team announced Friday.

It's the first NHL call-up for the 21-year-old Subban, who will skate with the Bruins at their Friday practice at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington.

Boston's first-round pick in 2012 (24th overall), Subban has played in 22 games for Providence this season posting a 2.47 goals against average and a .921 save percentage to go with his 9-10-2 record. He appeared in 33 games for Providence in the 2013-2014 season, finishing with a 15-10-5 record with a 2.31 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.

In his last three starts for the P-Bruins, Subban allowed just three goals while going 2-1-0, earning him AHL Player of the Week honors.

Svedberg has appeared in 12 games with Boston this season, earning a 5-5-0 record with two shutouts while posting a 2.22 goals against average and .922 save percentage.

In total, the 25-year-old has played 13 games with Boston with a 6-5-0 record, .924 save percentage and 2.20 goals against average. He finished last season with Providence, compiling a 25-15-4 record with a 2.63 goals against average and .910 save percentage with two shutouts in 45 appearances.
