Red Sox Trade Anthony Ranaudo To Rangers For Robbie Ross Jr.

BOSTON (CBS) -  The Boston Red Sox announced a trade on Tuesday.

The Sox acquired left-handed pitcher Robbie Ross Jr. from the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo. Ranaudo, 25, was selected by the Red Sox in the supplemental round (39th overall) in the 2010 June draft out of Louisiana State.

Ranaudo made his major league debut for Boston last season, going 4-3 with a 4.81 ERA in seven appearances, all starts. He began the year with Triple-A Pawtucket where he was named the International League's Most Valuable Pitcher, posting a 14-4 record with a 2.61 ERA in 24 starts for the PawSox in 2014.

Ross Jr., also 25, appeared in 27 games for the Rangers last season, sporting a 3-6 record and 6.20 ERA between the rotation and bullpen.

In his first two major league seasons from 2012-13, Ross Jr. pitched exclusively out of the bullpen and posted a 10-2 record with a 2.62 ERA, seventh best among qualifying major league left-handed relievers.
