Crews Working To Restore Power To Nantucket After Blizzard Of 2015

BOSTON (CBS) -- Power is slowly being restored on Nantucket after the Blizzard of 2015 knocked out electricity, internet and cell phone service to the island on Tuesday.

National Grid reported 4,647 Nantucket customers without power just before 9 a.m. The outage isn't expected to be fully repaired until Wednesday night, according to the National Grid website.

"We've been pretty much in the dark here," Nantucket Selectman Bob DeCosta told WBZ-TV. "This was a pretty intense storm."

Some residents had to be evacuated to shelters starting Monday night as several parts of the island saw flooding along with the large snow drifts.

"It's the worst snowstorm I've seen in quite a while," DeCosta said. "It's the highest I've seen the water in quite a long time."

On Tuesday morning, up to 40 utility trucks were being ferried to Nantucket to help restore power.
