2 Hurt In MBTA Train Platform Collapse In Billerica

BILLERICA (CBS) – The MBTA is promising a thorough investigation of what caused a retractable section of train platform in Billerica to collapse injuring two people.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday at the North Billerica station, as people were getting off the commuter train from Boston.

Many of the passengers were returning from a Garth Brooks concert, including John Valdina, who jumped into the pit to reach a man trapped under part of the platform.

"You think the worst, what could have happened to that kid under there," he told WBZ-TV.

"Half of him was under the train, half of him was under the cement pillar that fell down on him. It happens fast, the adrenaline gets into you and you do what you gotta do like anyone else would do to help."

The names of the two victims are not being released.

Both are expected to recover.
