Former Patient: Slain Doctor 'Could Have Helped So Many Others'

BOSTON (CBS) – The murder of a cardiac surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital has not only shaken colleagues.

Dr. Michael Davidson's Tuesday death has also impacted his former patients, such as Leonid Furman.

The 57-year-old Furman had a heart attack and met with Davidson last October when the surgeon performed bypass surgery.

"I would never have imagined I would never see him again," Furman told WBZ-TV.

Davidson died after being shot twice at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday by Stephen Pasceri, who police said then killed himself.

On Wednesday colleagues recalled Davidson as a compassionate and skilled surgeon, something Furman said he remembers from his own experience as well. Furman added that he was put at ease by Davidson's approach.

"Whether it saved my life I don't know but it definitely did make my life better for a longer term," Furman said of his procedure

Furman wonders how many thousands of lives Davidson could have saved if he had not been killed.

"He could have helped so many others, perhaps even helped me again someday," said Furman.
