Baker: Hospital Shooting Should Prompt Review Of Security Measures

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker says the fatal shooting of a doctor at a Boston hospital should prompt a reconsideration of security measures and procedures.

Baker called the death of a cardiac surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital "the ultimate nightmare for anybody in the health care world and especially people who work in really high risk fields like cancer and cardiology and emergency medicine."

Baker told reporters at the Statehouse on Wednesday that his heart goes out to both families who were touched by what he called "a tragedy of enormous proportions."

Police say Millbury resident Stephen Pasceri shot and killed Dr. Michael J. Davidson, director of endovascular cardiac surgery, after entering the hospital Tuesday morning and seeking out Davidson.

Police say Pasceri later died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
