Snow Showers Today, Sub-Zero Wind Chill Tonight

Widely scattered snow showers will move into southern New England this afternoon as an arctic cold front sweeps through.  In fact, thundersnow has been reported in parts of NY ahead of this boundary! By the time the front gets here, the snow squalls should lose a bit of steam. Nonetheless, light to moderate bursts of snow will briefly reduce visibility and drop a quick coating in some communities. The threat for these snow showers is from north to south between noon and 5 PM. I'm not expecting a big impact on the roads, but a few slippery spots may result and with colder air coming in, these snowy spots will freeze up as temperatures fall through the 20s into the teens this evening.

Wind Chill Advisory posted for parts of southern New England (midnight until 10 AM Saturday)

Tonight, we'll bottom out in the single digits – both above and below zero. Factor in the wind on top of that and it's going be brutally cold!  While tomorrow will be a chilly day with high temperatures struggling to get out of the teens and lower 20s, at least we'll be dry with a good amount of sunshine. And the wind will subside too.

Sunday gets tricky. There's still uncertainty in the track and intensity of a storm expected to pass near us Sunday night.  Right now, it looks like our temperatures should briefly come into the lower 40s with areas of rain developing during the afternoon, lingering into the evening. In other words, the Pats game will likely feature some rain. That being said, we're still 48+ hours out from game time…so I can assure you that the timing will change in some way, shape or form.  But for planning purposes – definitely pack the wet weather gear for Gillette.

Aside from a lingering rain or snow shower very early on Monday, we should see clearing skies and seasonal temps for MLK Day.

I'll be live from Gillette on Sunday morning for our our AFC Championship coverage – and will have the latest timeline and conditions during our special evening newscast prior to kickoff at 5 PM Sunday! Hope you can tune in – go PATS!
