Plus/Minus: Bruins Make It Five, Keep The Streak Alive Against Rangers

BOSTON (CBS) - Adam Jones was joined by Dave Goucher and Bob Beers following the Bruins' 3-0 win over the New York Rangers at TD Garden on Thursday night.

Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Loui Eriksson scored the goals, Chris Kelly dropped the mitts after Chris Kreider shoved Carl Soderberg into the corner, Brad Marchand kicked out Derick Brassard's legs in the corner, and Tuukka Rask stopped all 30 New York shots. It was a busy night at the Garden, and the conversation started with the simple question: What's changed with the Bruins that's allowed them to go on this five-game winning streak?

"First off, the six goals against in the five games," Goucher said. "The commitment to team defense has been there."

Goucher added that the additions of a healthy Krejci and a healthy Zdeno Chara contributes in a major way, too.

"They seem to be playing with more confidence, more of a swagger, a bit of a nastiness in their game," Goucher added.

As for the news that David Pastrnak will remain with the Bruins, Jones asked Goucher and Beers whether Peter Chiarelli was being forthright in saying that Pastrnak lessens the need for the team to acquire a right-shot forward.

They said it's hard to really know what the GM will do before the trade deadline, but Beers said of Pastrnak, "He's going to be an exciting player for a long time. I think we've gotten a pretty good glimpse of that."

Do Goucher and Beers believe Marchand will receive supplemental discipline?

Beers said Marchand's history with the league office might be reason enough to draw a punishment.

Adam also went over his positives and negatives from the game in Plus/Minus.

Plus

Tuukka Rask
"He was excellent tonight, especially in the opening period, a couple of big saves there. He made 14 more in the second period, 30 in all, for the second shutout of the year for Tuukka Rask."

Torey Krug
"A couple of assists, including the primary assist on David Krejci's redirect goal to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead."

Patrice Bergeron
"15-of-27 in the faceoff circle, he also got his 11th goal of the year, beginning with an offensive zone faceoff win."

Minus

Brad Marchand
"Gets away with a slewfoot on Derick Brassard. Seems like most people out there ... expect that Marchand is at least going to hear from the department of player safety. Who knows if that means a suspension or a fine? But I would certainly expect for him to hear from them in some way, shape or form.

Power Play
"This is nit-picky, but they were 0-for-3 on the power play."

New York Rangers
"This was a team that just went out to the West Coast and beat the Kings, Sharks and Ducks in succession. Then what do they do for a big crosstown rivalry against the New York Islanders? They get blanked 3-0. Then against the Bruins, big battle for a wild-card spot in the East? They get blanked 3-0."
