Brad Marchand Suspended Two Games For Slew-Footing Brassard

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Bruins are on a roll, winners of five straight, but they're going to be without Brad Marchand for a while.

Marchand was issued a two-game suspension on Friday by the NHL Department of Player Safety.

Marchand was punished for his actions on Thursday night against the New York Rangers. Late in the second period, with the Rangers on a power play, Marchand skated toward the corner boards alongside Rangers forward Derick Brassard.

As the two skaters neared the boards, Marchand threw a shoulder into the body of Brassard. However, Marchand's right leg also kicked into the bag of Brassard's legs, causing Brassard to fall awkwardly into the boards.

No penalty was called on the play.

Marchand is a repeat offender in the eyes of the Department of Player Safety. He was suspended five games for a low hit on Sami Salo in the 2012-13 season. He was suspended for two games in the season prior to that for elbowing R.J. Umberger in the head.

Marchand is the Bruins' leading goal scorer with 12, and he's tied for fourth on the team with 24 points.
