Man In Cookie Monster Hat Steals Rack Of Lottery Tickets, NH Police Say

SALEM, N.H. (CBS) -- A man wearing a blue children's Cookie Monster hat stole lottery tickets from a gas station and then cashed in his winnings, New Hampshire police say.

Surveillance video captures a man taking an entire rack of lottery tickets from Klemm's Mobil in Salem, New Hampshire, on Jan. 5 at 9:15 p.m., according to police. Authorities said he was then spotted about an hour later redeeming a large amount of winning tickets at a store in Pelham before cashing in more winning tickets at another Salem store shortly after midnight.

Salem police believe the thief may live in Massachusetts but work in the Salem area.

The man is described as a thin, 25-to-30-year-old white male, with no facial hair and a "rounder" face. He was wearing black dress pants, black dress shoes, and a black/gray fleece with brown or gray gloves, police said.

The man was wearing the Cookie Monster hat at Klemm's but apparently changed to a tan knit hat before visiting the other stores.

He is believed to be driving a newer Jeep Patriot or similar tan or gold SUV cross-over type vehicle.
