Massarotti: Hall Of Fame Voters Need Some Higher Standards

BOSTON (CBS) -- First, allow me to introduce myself: I covered baseball and sports in Boston for about 15 years, during the Red Sox glory years, from roughly 1994-2009. I spent most of the time with the Boston Herald, the end of it with the Boston Globe. I've written four books, had the good fortune of having one of them land on the New York Times bestseller list, and now have the task of serving as both judge and jury over perhaps baseball's most lawless period, that renegade decade phase known as the Steroid Era.

Translation: I'm a Hall-of-Fame voter. I'm not whining about that – at least not at the moment – and I don't particularly feel the need to justify my stance. I vote for the players whom I believe to have been the very best at what they do. If that sounds Belichick-ian of me, so be it. I really don't have to explain myself to you or anyone else.
