Firefighters Rescue Stranded Deer From New Hampshire Lake

GILMANTON, N.H. (CBS) – New Hampshire firefighters made a winter rescue to start 2015, though the call was for a resident with four legs, not two.

The Gilmanton Fire Department posted a photo to its Facebook page showing a firefighter in a cold water suit leading a dear off the ice on Crystal Lake.

"Our first call of the year," the department posted.

According to the post, the deer was safely moved off the ice. But firefighters used the incident to remind human Gilmanton residents about ice safety.

"This however does not mean that the ice is safe for you to walk on," firefighters said. "Please keep your pets, your kids and yourselves off of the ice. None of the lakes or ponds in Gilmanton are safe."
