Charlestown Man Arrested In Fatal Everett Pedestrian Crash

EVERETT (CBS) -- A Charlestown man was arrested after Everett police say he struck and killed a 73-year-old woman with his car in Everett Saturday.

Police responded to Pleasant and Broadway Street for a report of someone hit by a car just before 5 p.m.

Sarah Nason, 73, of Everett was taken to Whidden Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Everett City Councilor Mike McLaughlin shared his grief over Nason's death.

"Sarah was a friend and a great lady who truly cared about others," McLaughlin said in a written statement. "This is a loss for our city."

The driver, Jonathan McNeil, 31, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs and causing serious bodily injury, operating under the influence of drugs, and possession of a class B substance.

McNeil is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
