No Bail For Uber Driver Accused In Sex Assault
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (CBS/AP) — An Uber driver accused of sexually assaulting a woman is being held without bail after a court appearance Wednesday morning.
Alejandro Done, 46, of Boston, waved his right to a dangerousness hearing in Cambridge District Court.
Police say Done picked up the victim from a Boston residence on Dec. 6, presenting himself as a driver for the ride sharing service.
Instead, Done, who remains in custody, allegedly drove the victim to a secluded location where he beat and sexually assaulted her. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, assault to rape, kidnapping, and assault and battery.
The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office says it's unclear if Done used information as an Uber driver to target the victim. Company records helped police to identify Done.
"This reported incident is a reminder that people need to be more alert than ever when taking any kind of public transportation," said District Attorney Marian Ryan in a statement. "Ride shares may be a new frontier in public transportation but the age old wisdom still applies: know who is taking you and where; and act on your instincts to get away if you have any feeling at all that a situation seems suspicious."
Done's next scheduled hearing is Jan. 26.
