Hopkinton High Bans School Dances Because Of Dirty Dancing

HOPKINTON (CBS) – Hopkinton High School is cancelling all upcoming dances. School officials say students are getting too close and explicit on the dance floor.

In a letter to parents, administrators say the "sexual nature of the dancing" has become increasingly inappropriate despite repeated warnings.

They add many students and parents felt uncomfortable with what was going on.

"Just a lot of indecent dancing and behavior," one mother told WBZ-TV. "Just uncomfortable all around."

"We acknowledge and understand that parents and students may be upset by this decision, however as teachers and administrators, our top priority is keeping all students safe and comfortable both in school and at school sponsored events," the letter read.

The decision excludes the junior prom.
