Daily Talker: "The Interview" Canceled

Sony Pictures Entertainment announced Wednesday it is canceling the Christmas Day opening of the movie "The Interview", a comedy about the assassination of North Korea leader Kim Jong Un. A U.S. official says federal investigators have established a link between the hacking of Sony to North Korea. Those hackers, who call themselves the "Guardians of Peace", threatened violence against moviegoers who attended showings of the movie. As for Sony, a spokesman said the studio "has no further release plans" for the $44 million comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. The decision comes with no shortage of controversy, however. Some say the studio should have acted soon but others say there are concerns over freedom of speech. One expert weighed in saying, "The notion that Sony and the theaters are going to react by caving on this film — a comedy — is ridiculous". That was according to Frances Fragos Townsend, who was President George W. Bush's counterterrorism adviser. Theater critic Richard Roeper tweeted, "So every time anyone ever makes a threat to, say, a chain of stores, or all the airports in the country, we should shut 'em down?".

What do you think of Sony's decision to cancel the release of "The Interview?"
