CBS Sports: Rondo Open To Re-Signing With Mavericks, Rockets

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Celtics are reportedly talking about a Rajon Rondo trade with the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, and the latest development says Rondo would be willing to re-sign with either team.

From CBS Sports' Ken Berger:

With Celtics president Danny Ainge seriously engaging several teams on Rondo trade scenarios, a league source told CBSSports.com Thursday that the point guard is open to re-signing with at least two of them -- the Mavericks and Rockets.

Given Rondo's looming unrestricted free agency, any deal would have to come with assurances that he'd be willing to re-sign with his new team. While those discussions have yet to take place with agent Bill Duffy since no trade agreement is in place, a person familiar with Rondo's thinking said the possibility of competing for championships in Dallas or Houston intrigues him.

A report Thursday night had the Mavericks in the driver's seat to land the pass-first point guard, with a first-round pick and center Brandan Wright going back to Boston in return (and hopefully much, much more).

Rondo discussed the rumors Wednesday night after recording 13 points, 15 assists and seven rebounds in a win over the Orlando Magic.

"[Trade rumors have been] a way of life since I've been here," he said. "It's just part of it."

Rondo is averaging 8.3 points, 10.8 assists and 7.5 rebounds per game this season. Over his nine-year NBA career in Boston, the 28-year-old has averaged 11 points, 8.4 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game, with those numbers jumping to 14.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and six rebounds per game in the playoffs.

Rondo helped Boston's Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen win an NBA title in 2007-08, his second year in the league, and has been named to four All-Star teams during his career.
