Report: Patriots Sign Marcus Cannon To Two-Year Extension
BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots have reportedly signed offensive lineman Marcus Cannon to a contract extension.
The Patriots and Cannon, who was in the final year of his rookie contract, have agreed on a two-year, $9 million extension according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Cannon is in his fourth year with New England after they drafted him in the fifth round out of TCU in 2011. He made his debut in Week 11 of his rookie year after undergoing chemotherapy in the offseason to treat non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He has played in all 13 games for the Patriots this season, and started the first three games at the year at left guard.
While Cannon's play has dipped a bit following a solid 2013 season, signing him to an extension gives New England some insurance with left tackle Nate Solder up for a new contract after next season (the Pats hold an option on Solder for 2015).
